Lila Kibel was born in Cape Town in 1999

She completed her BA Fine Arts with distinction at Michaelis in 2023

Since then she has exhibited in a group show at the Nel Gallery in 2024

In 2024, Kibel was part of the group entitled Ports of Relation in Rotterdam

She was included in the Cape Town Investec Art Fair for the Vault Research Booth in 2026

Kibel’s interest in materiality and entanglement stems from her engagement with dangers of extinction and the vulnerability of our planet

She works in an intuitive process using surface textures found in nature as a key component in generating meaning

Her paintings are multilayered as she often reworks them over time until the detritus of the found media is integrated into the surface and her subjects
