An incredibly rare and highly collectible piece of early 20th-century novelty history. This is the classic "Fenster-Radau" (variously translated on the packaging as "Window Breaker" and "Carreau Cassé"), a vintage acoustic prank or "crash-bang" joke. Popularized in the first half of the 20th century and featured in historic magic and joke catalogs like Davenport's, this gag consists of a series of thin metal plates. When dropped together onto a hard floor, the acoustic resonance of the overlapping metal plates creates a startlingly realistic sound mimicking a window shattering or glass crockery breaking.
The lot includes the original paper envelope container featuring graphic mid-century style illustrations of a baseball or rock shattering a multi-paned window pane, complete with instructions and titles printed in German, English, and French.
