This is a vintage Italian marquetry wood inlay plaque depicting a village or coastal scene. Marquetry is the art of applying pieces of thin wood veneer to a surface to form decorative patterns or designs.
The image uses various types of wood veneers with different natural colors and textures to create the picture.
The scene includes a tree, rocks, water, and a small boat in the distance.
The technique involves meticulous craftsmanship to cut and fit each piece of veneer together.
It is a form of decorative art often applied to furniture or freestanding panels.
