He was a prolific 20th-century artist known for his atmospheric depictions of the South African countryside, particularly mountainous regions like the Drakensberg or the Magaliesberg, and tranquil river scenes.
Identification
-
Artist: Hennie Coetzee (South African).
-
Medium: Oil on board (common for his work).
-
Subject: A mountainous river landscape, likely capturing the "Blue Hour" or a misty morning, which explains the muted, monochromatic blue and grey tones.
-
Style: Traditional South African landscape realism, often characterized by the use of a palette knife or broad brushstrokes to create texture in the rocks and foliage.
-
Condition Note
The frame shows significant "chipping" and wear on the white finish. While the painting itself appears to be in decent shape, the value is currently hampered by the frame's condition. A fresh frame or a professional touch-up to the existing one would make the piece much more "wall-ready" for a buyer.
Estimate Value: R500 - R1,500
