EXTREMELY RARE Antique Dutch 18th Century Engraved Brass with Copper Tobacco Box circa 1740.
The left handed bevelled brass hinged lid is hand engraved with King Willem IV of Orange (Reign 1711- 1751) and depicting the crests of the 7 provinces of the Netherlands and Dutch text "Solang de son haar stralen geeft bid aan got dat Oranie leeft" - as long as the son gives her rays pray to got that Orange lives.
The brass bevelled bottom is hand engraved with his wife, Crown Princess Anne of Great Britain and depicting the British Royal coat of arms and Dutch text "Prinsces van Oranie kroon prinsces an Groot britan" - Princess of Orange, Crown Princess of Great Britain. The copper sides engraved with leaved scrolls.
