This year’s graduating class of the Michaelis School of Fine Art UCT, will be hosting their annual silent auction fundraiser event.

The auction, a longstanding tradition of the school's, aids in the costs of the large graduate show exhibition held at the end of the year, including a professionally produced catalogue for the graduating class, and contributes to the Materials Bursary Fund which provides disadvantaged students with financial assistance towards art supplies. This fundraising effort enables the graduating class an opportunity to give back to the school, and to frame their work within a broader context of professional art practice. Both of these fundraising efforts are important elements in the development of socially connected, resourceful young artists, and is particularly important this year, as it is essentially the only source of fundraising available to the students due to ongoing pandemic and related socially-distanced restrictions.

The event is entirely not-for-profit, with all proceeds going to the school Material's Bursary, and production of the graduate student catalogue.

 

Auction Format:  Timed Auction

Close Interval:  1 minute.

Extension Time: 2 minutes

The auction will be run as a Timed Auction with staggered closing times. The first Lot will close at 18:00 on Thursday 16 September 2021.  Subsequent lots will close in 1 minute intervals.  If a bid is placed within the last 2 minutes the closing time will be reset to 2 minutes.

It may be possible that the closing time of one lot may extend passed the closing time of a following lot.

Payment and Collection

An invoice with payment details will be sent to the successful bidder within the week after the event. Please keep an eye out for this email.

Payment is due immediately upon receipt of the invoice, and artworks will not be released until payments have successfully cleared in the fundraising account. Please ensure timeous payment to allow for this before collecting work.

If we are not able to reach the winner of each bid after several attempts, or payment is not made within the allocated time, the second successful bidder after them will be considered the winner of that bid and will be contacted instead.

Collection of works after the auction will occur at Michaelis UCT in Gardens Cape Town from the 27 Sep - 01 Oct.

Any request to deliver work to areas outside of Cape Town can be done at the successful bidder's own expense. We are able to courier from Postnet to Postnet (0-5kg is R99). Please alert the Silent Auction team upon receipt of your invoice.
